Parenting advice

Yes. I need help. Not with Lucas...no the other child in the house, the dog. She's so good at pushing my buttons. And I think I'm pretty strict. I want well mannered children. And Pippa ain't that right now. She WILL NOT listen when we are outside. Totally ignores me. Selective hearing is in full force. I've tried treats and calling for her. Sometimes it works, other times not so much. And if we are in the front yard she will run after people because she wants to talk to them. And our road is soo busy. And again she totally ignores me when I tell her no or stay. Today we picked up Lucas from school and she gets so excited to see all the kids. She jumps and wants to greet everyone. Please give me some good advice. I think it's almost time to take some puppy classes, but I wanted to wait until she had gotten all her puppy shots, which will be another four weeks. So what can I do????

Bettina, I love the dog whisperer! His techniques and suggestions were very helpful when we adopted a shelter dog last year. Try his website http://www.cesarsway.com/tips/basics/starting-your-puppy-off-right or read some of his books. Very easy, entertaining reads. Good luck!

I agree on the Dog Whisperer! Jerry read his book and that helped a lot. All I can say is be consistant. Jerry trained both dogs so I am not much help. I do remember with Brandi she wouldn't listen. Jerry would bring her over where he wanted her and hold her down on her side, kind of like a time out. He would also do this when she was too hyper to listen. This did not work for Aly, she can't sit still for long. He got the "time out" idea from Ceasar Milan. Try a spray bottle with water for when she is behaving bad such as getting into something she is not supposed to. Unfortunately, she is a puppy and very smart at that. She will test all of your patience. Maybe do more research on Border Collies and how to train them. Reward good behavior. Good Luck Bettina.
Any time you want a play date for her just let us know. :)

Is it wrong that I giggled? I love Pippa. She is beautiful. I hope you found something that helped/helps.
